Jack,

Loved reading your blog about your journey through France with your Mother. Superb.

I am looking to do the same but only have a Crossfire 2 cheapy thing, is this good enough? Not keen on spending on a new bike, but what would you recommend I look for on Facebook marketplace? I am 6ft 1. Any advice from anyone warmly received.

Hi Ben. Thanks so much for letting us know! I really think the first time you do something like this, just do it with what you have. If you know the bike is good enough, and you have some decent panniers, then just go for it. You can always upgrade later if you want to do longer trips. Plus, the French coast is an ideal place to start without technical gear - flat and tons of croissants.

I agree with Jack! If you know the bike can work, the best bike is the bike you already have! Go for it...

How long do you think this first trip will be?
